The  Home Bound Initiative is dedicated to protecting the homes pets already have. We believe that a medical emergency, a job loss, or a sudden life crisis should never result in the heartbreak of a "forced surrender."

Our Mission: Preventing Forced Surrender

In Central Alabama, nearly 30% of shelter surrenders aren't due to a lack of love—they are due to a temporary lack of resources. Whether it is a sudden hospitalization, an unexpected injury, or the financial strain of losing a job, owners often feel they have "no choice" but to give up their beloved companions.

We step in as the bridge

We provide a comprehensive safety net for qualifying families through these core services:

· Food & Essential Supplies

Financial hardship shouldn't mean an empty bowl. We provide pet food, litter, and necessary supplies to owners experiencing job loss or living on a low income to ensure no pet goes hungry during a transition.

· Crisis Pet Sitting & Walking

Physical limitations shouldn't lead to surrender. For those recovering from a medical or life crisis—such as a broken leg, hip surgery, or temporary mobility issues—our volunteers provide in-home support. We assist with daily care, feeding, and exercise to ensure your pet remains in their familiar environment while you heal.

· Emergency Temporary Fostering

For owners facing sudden hospitalization or housing instability, we provide a safe, loving foster home for their pet until the crisis is resolved and the family can be reunited.

· Transportation Assistance

We provide rides to and from veterinary, spay, and neuter appointments for owners who are unable to drive or lack the resources to transport their pets.

· The "No-Surrender" Promise

These services are offered free of charge to qualifying families, ensuring that the bond between human and animal is preserved during their most difficult moments.
