About Animal-Angels Foundation

What is Animal-Angels Foundation?
Animal-Angels Foundation is a prevention-first animal welfare nonprofit serving seven counties in Central Alabama: Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, St. Clair, Walker, Bibb, and Chilton. We keep pets with their families by solving the problems that lead to shelter surrender before they reach that point. We are not a rescue organization. We are the prevention layer that makes less rescue necessary.
How is Animal-Angels Foundation different from a shelter or rescue?
Shelters and rescues do critical work, and we support them. But they step in after a pet has already left home. We step in before that happens. Our programs are designed to solve the crisis around the family so the pet never has to leave in the first place. When we do our job well, shelters have fewer animals coming through their doors.
What does "prevention-first" mean?
It means we work upstream. Instead of waiting for a family to surrender a pet and then finding that pet a new home, we ask what caused the family to reach that point and whether we can fix it. A vet bill, a housing barrier, a temporary emergency, a behavior problem. These are solvable. We solve them.
Is Animal-Angels Foundation a registered nonprofit?
Animal-Angels Foundation is in the process of obtaining 501(c)(3) status, which we expect to receive by the end of April 2026. We are fully operational and building programs now.
Do I have to live in one of your seven counties?
Yes. We currently serve Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, St. Clair, Walker, Bibb, and Chilton counties. If you live outside our service area, call us anyway. We may be able to point you to resources closer to you.
Does Animal-Angels Foundation take in or house animals?
No. We are not a shelter, and we do not house animals. Our work is focused on keeping pets in their homes. In situations where temporary placement is needed, our Foster-to-Train program provides short-term foster care with training, and our network of partners can help with other placement needs.
Why do you focus on keeping pets with families instead of just finding them new homes?
Because the data shows that most pet surrender is preventable. Families who surrender are usually not out of love. They are out of options. A pet that stays safely in its home with a supported family is the best outcome for the pet, the family, and the shelter system. Adoption is important and always will be. But if we can prevent the surrender from happening in the first place, everyone wins.

Programs and Services

What programs does Animal-Angels Foundation offer?
We run six core programs. SNIP provides free spay and neuter services with a $100 stipend for qualifying households. The Bridge is our crisis stabilization program that keeps families together through emergency support: food, gas, vet care, housing deposits, whatever it takes. Foster-to-Train pairs animals with temporary foster homes for basic training before adoption. Adoption Boost provides 90 days of post-adoption support to prevent returns. Sniff and Greet runs structured, low-stress adoption events in neutral spaces with trainer-guided introductions where the dog gets to choose their person. Pet Help Desk is our triage hotline where families can call before they run out of options. We also offer Pet Deposit Bridge (micro-grants for housing deposits), Community Cat TNVR, High-Impact Clinics, Finder-to-Foster, and a Landlord Partnership program.
Who qualifies for SNIP?
Households with an annual income at or below $60,000 are eligible for free spay or neuter services through SNIP. Qualifying households also receive a $100 stipend to help cover transportation or lost wages. The program uses a tiered model so the families who need the most help get it first.
My family is in crisis and I might have to give up my pet. Can you help?
That is exactly why we exist. Call us at (205) 754-7542 or email angels@animal-angels.org. Our Pet Help Desk will talk through your situation and connect you with the right program. Whether it is a vet bill, a housing issue, a temporary emergency, or something else, we want to hear from you before you make a decision you do not have to make.
What if a family really cannot keep their pet?
We never judge. If a family has exhausted every option and keeping the pet is not possible, we help them navigate a safe, dignified rehoming process. But we start by making sure every option has been explored. In many cases, the problem that feels permanent is temporary and solvable.
What is The Bridge?
The Bridge is our crisis stabilization and family retention program. It provides direct emergency support: food, gas cards, veterinary care, housing deposit assistance, temporary supplies, and whatever else it takes to keep a family and their pet together through a crisis. The Bridge also includes sub-programs like Community Cat TNVR, High-Impact Clinics (pop-up wellness events with vaccines, microchips, and SNIP scheduling), Finder-to-Foster (helping good samaritans reunite found pets with owners), and the Landlord Partnership (tools that reduce housing-related surrender).
What is Sniff and Greet?
Sniff and Greet events are structured, low-stress adoption events held in neutral spaces like parks and community centers. A professional trainer guides every introduction so the dog and the family get to know each other in a calm environment before anyone commits. The dog gets to choose their person. Better matches mean fewer returns.

The AWRN and Partnerships

What is the AWRN?
The Animal Welfare Resource Network (AWRN) is shared infrastructure that connects shelters, rescues, veterinary clinics, and community organizations into one prevention platform. Every partner connects to every other partner, not just through AAF. The platform includes a partner directory, shared referral pathways, capacity broadcasting, intake diversion tracking, Crisis Radar monitoring, and real-time prevention data. Animal-Angels Foundation builds and administers the platform, but the network does not revolve around any single organization. AWRN launched in seven counties in Central Alabama, but the platform is built to go nationwide. Any organization doing animal welfare work can join from wherever they are. Learn more about the AWRN.
Does the AWRN replace my current software?
For shelters and rescues, you have two options. You can keep running your current software and connect it to the AWRN, so you get the benefits of shared referrals, capacity broadcasting, and network-wide data without changing your daily operations. Or, if you prefer, you can transfer your shelter or rescue operations to the AWRN platform entirely and use it as your primary system. Either way works. The AWRN is designed to meet you where you are. For other partner types like vet clinics, community organizations, and landlords, the AWRN is an additional layer on top of whatever you already use.
I am a shelter, rescue, or vet clinic. How do we partner?
We would love to connect. Animal-Angels Foundation is building the AWRN to link shelters, rescues, veterinary clinics, and community organizations across our seven counties. Every partner strengthens every other partner. Reach out at angels@animal-angels.org or call (205) 754-7542 and we will set up a conversation.
I am a landlord or property manager. What does Animal-Angels Foundation offer me?
Our Landlord Partnership program reduces pet-related tenant turnover and improves tenant stability. We provide pet resume packets that give you real documentation about a tenant's pet before move-in, mediation support when pet situations develop, and a direct referral line to AAF for early intervention. When tenants have access to behavior training, spay and neuter services, and crisis support, they are more likely to stay and keep their units in good condition. It costs nothing to enroll. Contact us to learn how it works.
Can I help build the AWRN?
Yes. We are building the AWRN right now and need partners who will help shape it. You can stay informed and offer feedback as it develops, or you can become an Active Build Partner with early access to the platform to test features and flag issues from a real-world perspective. Your input shapes what gets built. Contact us at angels@animal-angels.org to get involved.

Donations and Sponsorships

How is Animal-Angels Foundation funded?
Animal-Angels Foundation is funded through a combination of grants, corporate sponsorships, and individual donations. Donor contributions fund The Bridge: food, gas, medical care, and emergency assistance that keeps families and pets together during a crisis. We are actively building partnerships with foundations, businesses, and community organizations across our service area.
I am a business and want to sponsor Animal-Angels Foundation. What does my investment do?
Every dollar you invest produces specific, measurable outcomes. Depending on the program you support, your investment prevents shelter intakes, funds surgeries, stabilizes families, or provides emergency resources. We can show you exactly what your money does through our Sponsor Impact Calculator. Reach out at angels@animal-angels.org to start the conversation.
How do I donate?
Visit our donation page to give. Every contribution funds The Bridge, our emergency support system that keeps families and pets together. You can give one time or monthly. Monthly donors are the foundation of The Bridge because your recurring gift means we can promise families that help will be there when they need it.
How can I volunteer?
We are building our volunteer program now. If you want to be part of what we are doing, email angels@animal-angels.org with your name, county, and what kind of work interests you. We will be in touch as opportunities open.
