Animal-Angels Foundation is building prevention infrastructure for animal welfare in Central Alabama. Below you will find our organization overview, founder bio, key facts, brand assets, and media contact information.
Animal-Angels Foundation is a prevention-first animal welfare nonprofit serving seven counties in Central Alabama. Founded by disabled veteran BJ Adkins, AAF works upstream to solve the problems that put pets at risk before surrender becomes the only option. Through six core programs and the Animal Welfare Resource Network (AWRN), AAF keeps families together by providing free spay/neuter services, crisis stabilization, training support, and community connections that reduce preventable shelter intake.
Most pet surrender begins before the shelter. Families are often out of options, not out of love. Animal-Angels Foundation was built on that truth.
AAF is a prevention-first animal welfare nonprofit serving Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, St. Clair, Walker, Bibb, and Chilton counties in Central Alabama. Founded by disabled veteran BJ Adkins, the organization runs six core programs designed to reduce preventable shelter intake: SNIP (free spay/neuter with a $100 stipend), The Bridge (crisis stabilization and family retention), Foster-to-Train, Adoption Boost, Sniff and Greet, and the Pet Help Desk triage hotline.
At the center of its model is the Animal Welfare Resource Network (AWRN), a shared infrastructure that connects shelters, rescues, veterinary clinics, landlords, and community organizations into an interconnected prevention platform. Every partner connects to every other partner, creating a regional safety net that catches families before they fall through the cracks.
AAF does not compete with shelters and rescues. It reduces the pressure on them by working upstream. Prevention is the missing piece in animal welfare, and AAF is building it.
BJ Adkins is a disabled veteran and the founder of Animal-Angels Foundation, a prevention-first animal welfare nonprofit serving seven counties in Central Alabama. After years of watching families lose pets they loved because no one stepped in before the crisis point, BJ decided to build the system that should have existed all along.
As the sole operator at launch, BJ designed AAF's six core programs, built the AWRN partner infrastructure model, and created the operational framework from the ground up. Her approach is rooted in one belief: most pet surrender is preventable if you reach the family before they run out of options.
BJ brings military discipline, a builder's mindset, and a deep respect for both animals and the humans who love them. She does not run a rescue. She runs prevention infrastructure.

Animal-Angels Foundation serves seven counties in Central Alabama, covering a mix of urban, suburban, and rural communities. The service area includes the Birmingham metro area and surrounding counties where animal welfare resources are stretched thin and prevention infrastructure is largely nonexistent.
Headquarters: 4906 Vise Road, Pinson, AL 35126
The AWRN (Animal Welfare Resource Network) is designed to scale beyond these seven counties. AAF is already fielding interest from organizations in Tennessee, Colorado, Virginia, Michigan, and Minnesota who want to replicate the model in their regions.
