FAQ

Common Questions About The Bridge

Who qualifies for The Bridge?
+
Anyone in our seven-county service area (Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, St. Clair, Walker, Bibb, Chilton) facing a crisis that could lead to pet surrender. There is no income cutoff for crisis stabilization.
What kind of help does The Bridge provide?
+
Emergency veterinary care, temporary food and supply kits, gas cards, pet deposit assistance, landlord mediation, pet resumes for housing applications, and direct referrals to partner resources. What you get depends on what you need.
Is there paperwork or an application?
+
No long applications. When you call, we ask a few questions to understand the situation and figure out the fastest way to help. Crisis does not wait for forms.
How fast can The Bridge respond?
+
Same-day triage. Emergency situations like eviction-related surrenders or acute veterinary needs get prioritized. Supply kits can be delivered within 24 to 48 hours.
Does it cost anything?
+
No. The Bridge is funded entirely by donors and sponsors. There is no cost to the family receiving help.
What if my problem is housing, not a vet bill?
+
Housing is the number one trigger for pet surrender in our service area. The Bridge includes the Landlord Partnership Program, Pet Deposit Bridge grants, pet resume packets, and direct landlord mediation.
Can I refer someone who needs help?
+
Yes. Shelters, rescues, vet clinics, social workers, and community members can all refer families by calling (205) 754-7542.
